The Day the Cloud Goes Down

Banks, hospitals, airlines and ordinary apps can fail together when one hidden cloud dependency breaks. A healthy server may become unreachable, an identity service can lock out authorised users, and automatic retries can turn a small fault into a global cascade.

This documentary follows an outage through data centres, DNS, identity, networks and control planes. It examines the AWS US-EAST-1 incident of December 2021, Cloudflare's routing outage of June 2022, the physical systems beneath the cloud, and the difficult reality of failover. It then shows how tested recovery, graceful degradation and manual continuity can keep essential services operating.
