The proposed digital euro would change who owes the money behind an ordinary digital payment. Follow a hypothetical café purchase through providers, settlement, offline use and merchant receipt. We compare bank deposits, cash, debit cards and privately issued stablecoins, then weigh privacy, inclusion, bank funding, implementation costs and payment resilience.
Checked 13 October 2026. The pilot is a planned limited beta test. Final legislation and an ECB issuance decision remain separate; 2029 readiness is conditional. This video delivers general information rather than personal financial advice.
