Ammonia Ships: Can Shipping Leave Oil Behind?

Published · 28 min

Watch on YouTube

Can ammonia help ocean-going ships leave oil behind? This video follows the complete fuel chain: Haber and Bosch, fossil and renewable production, tanks, engines, exhaust, ports and delivered costs. It compares batteries, hydrogen, methanol, biofuels, LNG and wind assistance.

Evidence is labelled: the 2024 Green Pioneer trial, Rotterdam’s 2025 full-scale bunkering simulation, Singapore’s 2026 supply proposal and CMB.TECH’s October 2026 Mineral Europa maiden-voyage announcement. Future deliveries and price claims remain company projections. Ammonia contains no carbon, but lifecycle emissions still depend on its production, supporting fuel and exhaust.

The five archival and contemporary photographs are credited on screen. Generated backgrounds are illustrative, with unnamed people and no representation of a specific unphotographed event. General information; no operational fuel-handling instructions. Sources and dates are recorded in the fact sheet.
